Sunni “Soldiers of Allah” murder 39 Shi’ites; Iranian parliamentary speaker blames Zionists, U.S.

The crafty Zionists succeed in perpetrating yet another jihad mass-murder. Sunni-Shi’ite Jihad Update, with a healthy dose of conspiracy paranoia and Islamic antisemitism: “Suicide bombers kill at least 39 in southeast Iran,” by Ali Akbar Dareini for Associated Press, December 15 (thanks to Mackie):

TEHRAN, Iran – Two suicide bombers blew themselves up near a mosque in southeastern Iran on Wednesday, killing at least 39 people, including a newborn baby, at a Shiite mourning ceremony, state media reported.

The attack took place outside the Imam Hussein Mosque in the port city of Chahbahar, near the border with Pakistan, the official IRNA news agency said.

The bombers targeted a group of worshippers at a mourning ceremony a day before Ashoura, which commemorates the seventh century death of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson Hussein, one of Shiite Islam’s most beloved saints.

The “Prophet Muhammad”: AP, like all of the mainstream media, has decided that we are all Muslims now.

An armed Sunni militant group called Jundallah, or Soldiers of God, claimed responsibility in a statement posted on its website. The group has carried out sporadic attacks in Iran’s southeast to fight alleged discrimination against the area’s Sunni minority in overwhelmingly Shiite Iran.

The group said Wednesday’s attack was a second act of revenge for the execution of its leader, Abdulmalik Rigi, in June.

“This operation is a warning to the Iranian regime that it must end its interference in the religious affairs of the Sunnis, stop executions and release the prisoners,” said the Internet statement. “Otherwise, martyrdom operations will continue with a stronger forcer [sic].”

One of the attackers detonated a bomb outside the mosque and the other struck from inside a crowd of worshippers, state TV reported. […]

“Evidence and the kind of equipment used suggest that the terrorists were affiliated with extremist … groups backed by the U.S. and intelligence services of some regional states,” Abdollahi was quoted as saying by state TV.

Iranian officials claim Jundallah, which has operated from bases in Pakistan, receives support from Western powers, including the United States. Washington denies any links to the group, and in November the State Department added Jundallah to a U.S. list of foreign terrorist organizations.

President Barack Obama condemned the attack and said the United States stands with the loved ones of those killed and with the Iranian people.

“This and other similar acts of terrorism recognize no religious, political or national boundaries. The United States condemns all acts of terrorism wherever they occur,” Obama said in a statement released by the White House.

Parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani said the bombing sought to sow discord among Shiite and Sunni Muslims.

“The aim of the terrorists … is to sow discord among Shiites and Sunnis,” he said. “Such actions can be done only by the Zionist regime and the U.S.”…

Of course! Who else?

Virginia jihadist who tried to murder President Bush says his life sentence is too harsh

Ahmed Abu Ali was valedictorian in 1999 of the Islamic Saudi Academy in Northern Virginia. Apparently he misunderstood all their instruction about how Islam is a Religion of Peace.

Courtroom Jihad, tying up Infidel time and resources: “Terrorist to appeals court: life term is too harsh,” by Larry O’Dell for The Associated Press, December 9 (thanks to Weasel Zippers):

RICHMOND, Va. — The life prison term given to a U.S. man who joined al-Quaida and plotted to assassinate then-President George W. Bush was unreasonably harsh when compared to sentences in comparable terrorism cases, the man’s lawyer told a federal appeals court Thursday.

A government attorney countered that U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee properly concluded that Ahmed Abu Ali’s case was unique and that his lack of remorse demonstrated that he would be a danger to others if ever released from prison.

A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments from both sides before taking Abu Ali’s request for a new sentencing hearing under advisement. The court usually takes a few weeks to rule.

Abu Ali was born in Houston and grew up in the Washington suburb of Falls Church, where he was valedictorian of a private Islamic high school. He joined al-Qaida while attending college in Saudi Arabia and discussed numerous potential terrorist attacks, including a plot to assassinate Bush, and planned to establish a sleeper cell in the United States….

Campbell said the likelihood that Abu Ali would remain dangerous after a release was “a grave concern” that the judge had a right to consider at sentencing.

Uh, yeah.

Al-Qaeda jihadists researching ways to evade airport security and murder “larger numbers of unbelievers and apostates”

The moment that one of these bombs goes off on an airplane, the futility of the TSA’s new scan-and-grope procedures will be abundantly clear even to the thickest of the learned analysts. But will there then be a shift toward a more intelligent security policy? Probably not.

“‘Frankenbombers’: Al Qaeda hatches plot to implant explosives into suicide bombers,” by James White for the Daily Mail, December 6 (thanks to Weasel Zippers):

Al-Qaeda fanatics may be planning a horrific ‘Frankenbomber’ suicide attack by implanting explosives into a human body.

Defence analysts logged conversations between users of a online forum in which Muslim extremists debate terrorism methods which could beat new US aviation security checks.

The alarming posts included one by a user who claimed to be a surgeon, promising a ‘new kind of terrorism’.

It called on bomb makers and doctors to create the perfect solution to murder ‘larger numbers of unbelievers and apostates.’

The post said: ‘What is your opinion about surgeries through which I can implant the bomb… inside the operative’s body?

‘I am waiting for the interaction of the experienced brothers to connect the two sciences together and produce a new kind of terrorism, Allah willing.’…

Pakistan: Misunderstanders of Islam murder 50 in twin jihad/martyrdom attacks

Probably the perpetrators were misunderstanding the verse of the Qur’an that promises Paradise to those who “kill and are killed” for Allah (9:111) as meaning that Paradise was promised to those who “kill and are killed” for Allah. It is unclear how they got such a crazy idea.

“50 die in twin Taliban suicide attacks in Pakistan: official,” from Trend, December 6 (thanks to Twostellas):

Two suicide bombers Monday targeted a meeting of pro-government tribal elders in a Pakistani tribal region and killed at least 50 people, officials said.

Pakistani Taliban, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed the responsibility for the attacks, sources told Xinhua.

The bombers, riding motorcycles, struck the government office at Ghalanai, the headquarters of Mohmand tribal agency, regional official Shams-ul-Islam said.

Shams-ul-Islam said that over 100 people were present in the office of Assistant Political Agent, Roshan Khan, when the bombers detonated their bombs.

Information Minister of northwest Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province Mian Iftikhar Hussain told reporters in Peshawar that 50 people were killed and 120 others were injured….

Iraq: Jihadis murder elderly Christian couple at home

Note the lack of an agent in the headline. Then in the body of the AP story we hear they are “gunmen,” with the suggestion that they’re affiliated with “al-Qaeda’s front group in Iraq.” It is forbidden to say anything that might give readers some hint of the ideology behind such attacks. “Iraq Attack Kills Elderly Assyrian Couple At Home,” from AP, December 5:

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi police are reporting a new attack on Christians in Baghdad by gunmen who broke into the home of an elderly couple and killed them.

It was the latest in a series of attacks on the country’s Christian minority, which has been fleeing the country in droves since an Oct. 31 assault on a Catholic church that killed 68.

al-Qaeda’s [sic] front group in Iraq has threatened Christians, saying the violence is retribution for Egypt’s Coptic Church holding women captive for converting to Islam.

Police said four gunmen raided the home in a predominantly Shiite neighborhood Sunday evening and repeatedly shot the couple with silenced pistols before escaping….

Norway: Police reopen investigation into attempted murder of Satanic Verses publisher

The shooting of Nygaard was one of the first salvos in the violent jihad against the freedom of speech, which has heated up so much since then. “Norway reopens Satanic Verses shooting case,” from CBC News, November 27 (thanks to Benedict):

Norwegian police, boosted by a sizable reward, have reopened an investigation into the 1993 attempted assassination of the Norwegian publisher of Salman Rushdie’s The Satanic Verses.

William Nygaard, CEO of the Aschehoug publishing house, was shot three times outside his house in Oslo on Oct. 11, 1993. Though seriously injured, he recovered and says he’s happy to hear the news.

Nygaard told Aftenposten newspaper that finding his attempted murderer was important “primarily to defend Norwegian values of freedom of expression.”

A reward of 500,000 kroner (about $ 83,000 Cdn) is being jointly offered by Aschehoug and the Norwegian Publishers’ Association for any new information that would lead to an arrest. […]

The reopening of Nygaard’s case follows the September publication of Who Shot William Nygaard? by journalist Odd Isungset, who has followed the story for 17 years.

In the book, Isungset outlines details of the case and the suspects as well as the problems that beset the original investigation. Isungset points fingers at a suspect who bought a one-way ticket to Iran in cash the day after the attack.

“This is a really important case — the only terror attack on Norwegian soil since World War II,” Isungset told the Guardian newspaper.

Nygaard wasn’t the only person connected with The Satanic Verses who got attacked. In 1991, the Japanese translator of the book, Hitoshi Igarashi, was killed and the Italian translator, Ettore Caprioli was also attacked. No one has been arrested in those cases either….

The Iranian Nuclear Scientist Murder Mystery

Ed Morrissey writes at Hot Air about another attempt to delay Iran’s acquisition of nuclear power-killing their scientists:

Fresh off the revelation that Iran’s Sunni neighbors urged the US to attack Iran and decapitate its regime, two bombs targeting scientists in Iran’s nuclear program killed one and wounded another today in separate but apparently linked blasts. These attacks follow earlier apparent assassinations that killed two other researchers in their nuclear program. The Iranians, however, have chosen not to blame its neighbors but instead put the blame on Israel

Just 24 hours ago, Israel would have been the logical choice.
Of course, in the aftermath of the Wikileaks revelations, it has now been confirmed that the Arab world in general is anxious about Iran’s plans. If anything, considering how little impact the murder of the scientist is likely to have on Iran’s program, it is more likely that one of Iran’s neighbors is behind the bombing.

So, whodunit?

Morrissey has a favorite scenario for the solving of this mystery:

In fact, this might be an Agatha Christie whodunit. I’d love to think that the climax would be similar to Murder on the Orient Express, but I suspect that the actual plotters aren’t sharing information or control of the plot.

Considering the Wikileaks revelations, that would not be so far-fetched.

The question is what the longer term effects of this batch of leaked documents will have on the Middle East in terms of policy.

As Morrissey points out, it is unlikely that the US was behind the blast, but that doesn’t mean that the US cannot turn around and become more assertive in the options it chooses against Iran.

Unfortunately, given the path the Obama administration has staked out for itself, that possibility is more far-fetched than an Agathie Chrisite story.

Michigan man granted new murder trial

The Flint Journal has a story about Temujin Kensu, a Michigan man who has spent the last 23 years in prison for a murder he says he did not commit. And a federal appeals court recently granted his habeas corpus petition and ordered prosecutors to either grant him a new trial or release him.

As in nearly all such cases, the prosecutor’s office continues to maintain his guilt:

State prosecutors are fighting to keep him in prison.

At a commutation board hearing in September, the attorney general’s office said it believes Kensu should remain in prison.

The St. Clair County Prosecutor’s office also believes Kensu is guilty, said Prosecutor Michael Wendling, in an interview before the conviction was overturned.

“He’s where he belongs, in prison,” Wendling said.

The St. Clair County prosecutor at the time of the conviction was Robert Cleland, now a U.S. District Judge in the Eastern District of Michigan — coincidentally, the same district court that ruled last month that he should have known he was presenting false testimony.

Judge Denise Page Hood of that same district court ruled on Oct. 24 that Kensu is entitled to a new trial or release based on the incompetence of his defense attorney, who was suffering from a drug addiction at the time, and the fact that the key witness in the case recanted his testimony and that the prosecutor should have known he was lying.

That witness was Philip Joplin, who shared a holding cell with Kensu, then known as Frederick Freeman prior to his conversion to Buddhism, for two hours. He testified at the trial that Kensu told him he had murdered Scott Macklem and that he had an “airtight alibi” that would allow him to get away with it.

But Joplin later recanted that testimony and signed an affidavit alleging that he had been coached by prosecutors on what to say and had been promised an early release from prison in exchange for that testimony, a release he received. Prosecutors deny having offered anything in exchange for that testimony.

Judge Hood found Joplin’s affidavit to be credible and said:

Here, assuming the truth of Joplin’s affidavit and the hearsay assertions contained within that affidavit, there is no question that Joplin knowingly testified falsely at trial when he testified that Petitioner told him that Petitioner shot and killed Mr. Macklem, and that the prosecutors should have known his testimony was untruthful.

It should be noted that Judge Hood was required by precedent to view the evidence “in a light most favorable to the prosecution” in reaching her decision. She ordered prosecutors to either grant him a new trial or release him. The state is appealing that ruling to the Michigan Supreme Court.
