Jihad threat to DC restaurants as Al-Qaeda calls for attacks on govt workers

From Inspire magazine, more jihadist inspiration in dreams of mass-murder for Allah. “Terror threat to restaurants as Al Qaeda calls for attacks on government workers in D.C.,” by James Gordon Meek for the New York Daily News, October 11:

WASHINGTON – The terror group tied to the Ft. Hood killings and the Christmas Day undies airbomber urge wannabe American jihadis to open fire on crowded restaurants in the nation’s capital to massacre U.S. government workers.

The advice appears in “Inspire,” the latest issue of a slick propaganda publication by Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Osama Bin Laden’s franchise in Yemen.

“A random hit at a crowded restaurant in Washington, D.C., at lunch hour might end up knocking out a few government employees,” Yahya Ibrahim writes in the 74-page jihadi how-to magazine.

“Targeting such employees is paramount and the location would also give the operation additional media attention,” Ibrahim added….

According to a copy of the magazine obtained by the SITE intelligence group, AQAP also urged those bent on murdering for Islam to use everything from pickup trucks to improvised pressure-cooker bombs to kill.

The trucks can be fashioned into “the ultimate mowing machine,” with steel blades welded to the grill to “mow down the enemies of Allah” by running down Americans on crowded sidewalks “to achieve maximum carnage” in a “martyrdom operation.”…

In 1993, Pakistani killer Mir Aimal Kasi opened fire on CIA employees at a stoplight, who were targeted because their cars were in a turn lane for the agency’s Virginia headquarters.

Australia: Two Muslims accused of plotting terror attack were lectured on jihad by Islamic cleric

Funny how so many Islamic clerics turn out to be misunderstanders of the Religion of Peace™. One would think that a man who had devoted his life to the study of the Qur’an and Sunnah wouldn’t get it all so drastically wrong. And yet it seems to keep happening, as the learned analysts scratch their heads and mutter about poverty. “Terrorism accused were lectured on jihad,” by Anna Walker for Australian Broadcasting Company News, October 12:

The Victorian Supreme Court has heard how two men accused of planning a terrorist attack in Sydney were lectured by a sheikh on the values of jihad.

Five Melbourne men are on trial accused of plotting an attack at the Holsworthy Army Barracks in Sydney.

The transcript of an audio file, found on one of the men’s computers, was read to the jury today.

The file contained a conversation carried out over the internet between two of the accused men in Melbourne and a sheikh in Somalia.

In the recording, the Muslim leader spends an hour lecturing Saney Aweys and Abdirahman Ahmed on jihad, or holy war.

He tells the men to choose between two realities – Christianity or Al Qaeda.

He also urges them to fight with their closest infidels….

After Christmas jihad bomb attempt, UK academics ignore, deny, minimize problem of jihadist activity among Muslim students

Because to have done otherwise would have been “Islamophobic.” “How radical Islam seduced the academics: The Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab case highlights the pusillanimity of those who should be confronting extremism,” by Nick Cohen in The Observer, October 10 (thanks to all who sent this in):

A few months ago, I sat in a magnificent Victorian lecture hall at University College London. It was once one of finest centres of intellectual inquiry in Europe, thanks to the efforts of its founder, the sternly anti-clerical philosopher Jeremy Bentham. It did not take me long to realise that fear of clerical fascism had led Bentham’s trembling successors to abandon intellectual inquiry and basic intellectual standards along with it.

I had come along with hundreds of others because, on Christmas Day 2009, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a former UCL student, tried to detonate plastic explosives hidden in his underwear and kill the 278 passengers and crew on Northwest Airlines’ flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. After such a narrow escape from mass murder, I thought that no one could deny that the universities needed to confront campus sectarianism. I reckoned without the limitless capacity for self-delusion of British academe.

By the time UCL organised a public debate on the Abdulmutallab affair, reporters had established that the Nigerian student had lost himself in London’s political netherworld, where the white far left meets the religious far right. As president of UCL Islamic Society, Abdulmutallab had presided over an “antiterror week”, which featured a promotional video of clips of violence, accompanied by hypnotic music. The film-maker had inserted footage of George Galloway saying the west believed Palestinian blood was cheaper than Israeli blood, and Amnesty International’s latest pin-up, Moazzam Begg, alleging the Americans tortured him at Guantánamo Bay.

“When we sat down, they played a video that opened with shots of the Twin Towers after they’d been hit, then moved on to images of mujahideen fighting, firing rockets in Afghanistan,” one member of the audience told the New York Times. “It was quite tense in the theatre, because I think lots of people were shocked by how extreme it was. It seemed to me like it was brainwashing, like they were trying to indoctrinate people.”

The London Times found that one cleric who had lectured the UCL Islamic Society was on record as saying of the Jews (inevitably): “They’re all the same. They’ve monopolised everything: the Holocaust, God, money, interest, usury, the world economy, the media, political institutions… they monopolised tyranny and oppression as well.” Alongside the racism came the concomitant sexism, homophobia and hatred of the western world. Channel 4, for instance, had caught another visiting imam on camera saying that the testimony of women was worth half that of a man. As for gays, he added: “Do you practise homosexuality with men? Take that homosexual man and throw him off the mountain.”

You might have thought that in light of the above, academics would have wanted to protect their students. In particular, they should have wanted to protect Muslim students from going the way of Abdulmutallab.

Instead of facing the problem squarely, they pretended it did not exist. Philippe Sands, a law professor who is always alleging that Tony Blair is a “criminal” for overthrowing Saddam Hussein’s genocidal tyranny, appeared undisturbed by the existence of actual criminals among his university’s alumni. He didn’t want to spy or snoop on his students, he said, and did not see why anyone should want him to. Other speakers followed the example set by the UCL’s provost, Malcolm Grant, and avoided discussing extremism in the university by the shabby trick of denouncing those who wanted to talk about it as “Islamophobes”….

Of course! What else could they be? Maybe…people who wouldn’t like to see another plane blown out of the sky, as Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to do? Naaah!

Youngstown, Ohio: Muslim spokesman says “a greater number of Muslims need to be on TV informing people about the true tenets and principles of the religion” in response to jihad violence

This is just another story among hundreds that come across the transom all the time: a local Muslim group sponsors a meeting in which a Muslim spokesman explains that, contrary to appearances, Islam is actually a peaceful religion, when properly understood. There is nothing particularly noteworthy about this one in particular; it features the usual claim that the 9/11 jihadis hijacked Islam, with the usual paucity of evidence given to back up that claim.

But what is interesting about this piece is that Dr. Nibal Zaghloul recommends that in response to jihad attacks, “a greater number of Muslims need to be on TV informing people about the true tenets and principles of the religion.” And yet this is all we get now: when there is another Islamic jihad attack, Muslims are on TV in abundance, assuring us that the latest Qur’an-spouting, Muhammad-invoking murderer really wasn’t a true Muslim and his attack has nothing to do with Islam, and don’t forget Tim McVeigh, etc. etc. etc. We’re inundated with this nonsense all the time, and yet Zaghloul says we need still more of it.

One reason for that is that it is a species of dawah, Islamic proselytizing, and as a believer Zaghloul wants to see more of that. But another reason why he may want to see more of this fog pumped into the public sphere is because people are beginning to see clearly, despite the best efforts of Islamic supremacists to obscure their vision. The more jihad attacks there are, the more Muslim spokesmen have to talk talk talk talk talk so as to make people go back to sleep.

They never, you’ll notice, say that it’s time for the Muslim communities to clean house. They never say that in response to Islamic jihad attacks, Muslims need to do some serious soul-searching and reject jihad and Islamic supremacism. No, all that we ever hear from Muslims in response to jihad activity is that non-Muslims have to clear away their “misconceptions” of Islam, and realize that it really is peaceful and benign despite all those bristling knives, bomb belts, threats of blood and death, and vows to take over. It is up to non-Muslims to alter their perceptions and deny the evidence of their eyes, rather than up to Muslims to reform.

And although this scenario has played out thousands of times over the last few years, as we have chronicled ad nauseam at Jihad Watch, people still fall for it. I’m certain that Dr. Nibal Zaghloul was not challenged on this by anyone in his doubtless polite, attentive audience, which went home grateful to have been reassured.

“Muslim center in Valley holds open house to open minds about Islam,” by Sean Barron in Vindy.com, October 10:

YOUNGSTOWN – When 19 Muslim extremists hijacked four planes and killed several thousand peo ple [sic] during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, they also did major damage to a major religion, as far as Dr. Nibal Zaghloul is concerned.

“Those people also were hijacking my religion,” Zaghloul explained during Sunday’s open house at the Masjid Al-Khair mosque and school, 1670 Homewood Ave., on the city’s South Side.

Sponsoring the four-hour gathering was the Islamic Society of Greater Youngstown.

The fifth annual event was designed to give people a better idea of what the Islamic faith stands for and to allow them to meet Muslims and learn more about their traditions, organizers said.

Zaghloul, a Youngstown oncologist and hematologist, noted that the vast majority of Muslims advocates [sic] peace and submission to the will of God. Nevertheless, he said, the religion has seen occasional setbacks since 9/11, such as the actions of Faisal Shahzad, who recently drew a life prison sentence after being convicted in a federal courtroom in New York City of planting a car bomb in Times Square.

Yeah, you could call that a setback.

It’s not enough to condemn violent acts and rhetoric by the few extremists who receive a lot of publicity, he said. A greater number of Muslims need to be on TV informing people about the true tenets and principles of the religion, Zaghloul continued.

Interpol issues warrants for two serving Pakistani army officers over Mumbai jihad attacks

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Basit, September 30: “Let me reiterate that Pakistan is committed not to allow its territory for terrorist actions anywhere in the world.”

Uh-huh. “Interpol issues Pakistan army arrest warrants over Mumbai attacks,” by Dean Nelson and Praveen Swami for the Telegraph, October 8 (thanks to Johnny):

Interpol has issued warrants for the arrest of two serving officers in the Pakistan army for alleged involvement in the 2008 terror attacks on Mumbai, investigators said on Friday.

A third military figure, a retired Pakistan Army Major was also named as a suspect along with an al-Qaeda-linked commander and a leader of the Pakistan-based terrorist group, Lashkar e Taiba (LeT), which carried out the Mumbai attacks in which 166 were killed.

By asking Interpol to issue warrants against two apparently senior Pakistan Army officers, India has intensified its campaign against Islamabad and strengthened its claim that some elements within Pakistan’s security forces supported the Mumbai attacks.

The development follows an admission by the former military ruler General Musharraf earlier this week that Pakistan had raised terrorist groups to attack India because of its refusal to negotiate over the dispute on the future of Kashmir.

Those named in the warrants include Muhammad Ilyas Kashmiri, a militant commander believed to be close to al Qaeda, Sajid Majid, a senior LeT figure also known as Sajid Mir, Major Syed Abdur Rehman, a retired Pakistan Army officer, and two serving officers named as Major Sameer Ali and Major Iqbal.

The officers are alleged to serve in Pakistan’s ISI intelligence agency and were named by the LeT operative David Headley, who was arrested in Chicago last year as he was about to travel to Pakistan.

Headley, the son of an American mother and a Pakistani diplomat, was raised in Pakistan and educated at a military school. During interrogation he revealed he had carried out reconnaissance missions for the Mumbai terrorist attack and claimed that the two officers were his handlers.

Headley said both men spoke English, Hindi and Urdu, and alleged that Major Iqbal gave him $ 25,000 in cash in 2006 to visit India. India’s Ministry of External Affairs and its Ministry for Home Affairs, which is responsible for counter-terrorism, declined to comment on the Interpol notices yesterday.

But B. Raman, a retired senior Indian intelligence officer, said it was unlikely the warrant would have been issued without corroboration for Headley’s claims.

Indian investigators are alleged to have found evidence in an investigation into a man suspected of being an ISI agent in Uttar Pradesh.

Waqas Ahmad, who was arrested near Kanpur last year, was suspected of reporting back to the same telephone number in Pakistan that Headley said he had used to speak to his alleged handlers — three serving Pakistan officers. B Raman however said it was highly unlikely the officers would ever be identified or arrested.

“No one knows if these are their real names, it’s on the basis of what Headley said,” he said.
