(CNN) – President Obama speaks on behalf of Kentucky’s GOP Senate nominee in a new television ad.
Well, kind of.
Rand Paul’s latest ad, a 30-second spot released Monday and airing statewide, features an Obama impersonator talking about the “stamp of approval” his Democratic opponent, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway, has given to “more spending and debt, bigger government and higher taxes.”
“Now there’s a guy I can work with in Washington,” the impersonator says.
The fake Obama’s Blackberry rings and, oh look, he’s receiving a call from Conway.
“This race is between Jack Conway and Rand Paul, no one else,” Conway spokeswoman Allison Haley told CNN in a statement. “Even with an impersonator, Rand Paul can’t hide that he wants seniors to pay a $ 2,000 Medicare deductible and for states to be able to legalize drugs.Rand Paul doesn’t understand Kentucky.”
Paul has tried to make Obama a major theme in the race, constantly trying to link Conway to the president’s agenda.Conway has tried to assure voters that he’d be an independent voice for them.
A CNN/Time/Opinion Research Corporation poll conducted last month revealed Conway and Paul are statistically tied, with 46 percent of likely voters supporting each candidate. Five percent of likely voters were undecided.
