Chris Christie: Nominating Christine O’Donnell Was A Mistake

November 7, 2010 · Posted in The Capitol · Comment

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie didn’t hold back on Meet The Press when he expressed his belief that the Delaware GOP blew it when they nominated Christine O’Donnell:

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says the Senate race in Delaware was “a missed opportunity” for his fellow Republicans to pick up the seat long held by Democrat Joe Biden.

Tea party favorite Christine O’Donnell won the GOP nomination in an upset over moderate Rep. Mike Castle. But she lost the general election Tuesday to Democrat Chris Coons.

Christie says he was proud to have endorsed Castle.

Video:

Christie is, of course, correct. The Delaware GOP nominated someone who had no chance of winning, and the people who donated to Christine O’Donnell’s campaign may as well have thrown their money down a rat hole. The fact that there are still people like Jim DeMint who don’t recognize this fact tells us just how far gone the GOP actually is.

Christine McDonnell Continues To Blame Everyone But Herself

November 6, 2010 · Posted in The Capitol · Comment

Ace of Spades doesn’t buy Christine McDonnell’s blame shifting and buck-passing for the election results in Delaware:

But here’s O’Donnell saying it wasn’t her “standing up for principle” that cost her the election, but shady machinations against her.

I also agree it wasn’t “principle” that cost her the election. I think it had more to do with the fact that 1, she wasn’t bright (at all), 2, she had no accomplishments whatsoever (and yes, people do want to know someone’s actually done something to earn the right to be one of 100 in the Senate), 3, she had a series of bizarre statements from her past (“mice with fully functioning human brains”), and 4, she couldn’t articulate a conservative message in a way that sounded appealing or intelligent.

And 5 — I want a strict accounting of how her campaign donations were spent. Know what I mean? I’d like to know if any money was squirreled away for “future campaigns.”

Although, yeah, 6, her bright-red right positions of course were a drag in blue Delaware. I think a Joe Miller type or Sean Bielat would have had a chance to sell such a message even in blue state — as either easily passes the hurdles of credibility and seriousness — but even for a strong candidate, you can still lose when you’re advocating positions the constituents just don’t agree with. As Bielat lost, and as Miller will almost certainly lose.

Those were good candidates I endorse rolling the dice with.

But, on the other hand, a candidate who begins in a hole due to serious questions about credibility and qualifications and whose positions are in disagreement with the majority of people she would presume to represent? That right there is the difference between a race that could have been won and a blow-out.

Rove Sees Lesson In Christine O’Donnell’s Loss

November 3, 2010 · Posted in The Capitol · Comment

Karl Rove says that Christine O’Donnell’s loss in Delaware should be a lesson to conservatives:

“It gave me no pleasure to say that she was unlikely to win,” he said. “But this again provides a lesson. This is a candidate who was right on the issues, but who had mishandled a series of questions brought up by the press.”

I’d also add that nominating an extremely conservative candidate in a state that has been historically Democratic for the past two decades isn’t that great an idea either, even in a year when Republicans are riding a national wave.

A Terrible Loss by Christine O’Donnell (R)

November 3, 2010 · Posted in The Capitol · Comment

It was a real disappointment … “the witch” masquerading as a ‘market consultant’ (yes, those witches are truly cunning disguising themselves as experts about the produce and fish sections of grocery stores) Christine O’Donnell (R), lost to New Castle County Executive Chris Coons (D). The Witch 44% thereabouts, and “The Castle” way way more. There’s something truly fairytale about this witch-castle tug of war.

I mean, it would have been LEGENDARY, think of it: the first witch ever elected to the venerable Senate of the United States of America, a perfect poetic justice for Salem and surrounds. We have waited 400 years for this. And just look what happened. Everything lost.

Tonight, all brooms are a little less feeling like flying, and we hear all black cats across the nation are demanding a recat, I mean a recount.

Ok, Ok, Christine wasnt a REAL witch, just a pretend one. It is true. How do we know?

A real witch would have WON.

Seriously now.

Stop what you’re doing and watch Christine O’Donnell’s “We the People”

While a Delaware TV station is preventing Christine O’Donnell from showing her 30-minute political, don’t let it prevent you from seeing it thanks to the internet.

Although it concentrates on Delaware, it is reflective of what is going on in this nation when it comes to the economy.

O’Donnell is surging in the polls, and she is a threat to the democrats. Why else would Obama and Biden campaign in Delaware? Don’t the democrats have this in the bag? Change is coming tomorrow!

Here is The Christine O’ Donnell Ad Delaware TV Doesn’t Want you To See

November 1, 2010 · Posted in The Capitol · Comment

Christine O’Donnell is taking a page from the playbook of Barack Obama. The Republican Senate candidate has produced a 30-minute television advertisement in the form of a documentary chronicling her connection with the people of Delaware.

But unlike Obama’s ad at the end of the 2008 race, the tea party insurgent’s campaign has run into obstacles getting it in front of voters before Election Day. The campaign did not purchase advance time on networks in the Philadelphia or Delaware markets, said a source close to the O’Donnell campaign, and the networks did not have time available to air the ad on such short notice.

So O’Donnell turned to a public access television station, Delaware Channel 28. She told supporters at a Tea Party Express rally on Sunday in Wilmington to watch that night at 11:30. “Tell everyone to tune in,” she said at the rally.

“1 minute until the premiere of our 30 minute feature. Tune in to meet all the heart warming people I’ve met on the campaign trail. Ch. 28,” O’Donnell tweeted Sunday night.

But the ad never aired.

A few minutes later, O’Donnell tweeted: “Okay… this is NOT our show! Must be a programming mix up. We will get back to you…”

The source, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive campaign operations, said the station “forgot to air it.”

TWICE they forgot to air it. For those of you who want to see the compelling ad that Delaware TV doesn’t want you to see, the 1/2 hour O’ Donnell ad is embedded below

Delaware Public Access Station ‘Forgets’ To Air Christine O’Donnell 30 Minute Ad… Twice

November 1, 2010 · Posted in The Capitol · Comment

Christine O’Donnell’s campaign has had some problems in airing their 30 minute ad:

Then on Monday morning, O’Donnell’s campaign issued a press release saying the ad would air on Channel 28 at 10 a.m. The candidate tweeted: “The Inspiring TV show about Delawareans will air at 10 am and 3 pm today on Channel 28. Please watch this before you vote.”

And again, it did not air.

“This isn’t our show either! We are told channel 28 ‘forgot’ to air it…both times… even though we paid for the time slot last week,” O’Donnell tweeted shortly after 10 a.m.

Officials at the station could not immediately be reached for comment.

O’Donnell wrote that the station was reminded before the make-up airing that they also “forgot” to run:

null

But loh and behold, when I checked channel 28 of Delaware public access, I saw that they have in fact finally managed not to forget to put O’Donnell’s ad on the air (it’s being streamed live on the web right now at least):

null

If she wanted serious air time, O’Donnell should have gone to the Halloween party at ABC News dressed as Barack Obama and they’d have given her an entire hour.
