Senator Marco Rubio said if you want to know where all the blame lies when it comes to the lack of seriousness in resolving this fiscal crisis, you should look no further than to President Obama and the Democrats.

He calls out Obama for continuing his tradition of voting ‘present’ and lack of leadership.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going … to Russia. Marco Rubio appeared on the Jimmy Cefalo Show this morning to discuss the budget votes over the last two days and the lack of leadership in the fiscal crisis. Rubio, in his normal calm and reasonable manner, scoffed at the notion that Democrats [...]

Sarah Palin: Learning stuff can be really tiring Todd, don’t you think?

Todd Palin: I

Sarah Palin: This is not about you Todd. It is about me having to learn about America overseas and where the hell is Egypt.

Todd Palin: It’s

Sarah Palin: I know where it is now Todd that’s what I’ve been learning about. Egypt is in North Africa.

Todd Palin: I

Sarah Palin: Just a minute Todd. Africa! Africa! Is Hawaii anywhere near Africa!

Todd Palin: No

Sarah Palin: Oh. That’s a shame. Oh, hang on I forgot what I was talking about. Africa, Egypt, Africa, Egypt. Africa, Obama, Obama, Africa. Hell Todd doesn’t Obama come from Africa?

Todd Palin: He was born in Hawaii Sarah.

Sarah Palin: Don’t you let my Birther friends hear you saying that. Birth certificates, witnesses and an authentic press announcement don’t all have to be right. Hang on Todd. Stop changing the subject. Why is my mind thinking Egypt Obama?

Todd Palin: It was thinking Africa Obama.

Sarah Palin: But Egypt is in Africa. Oh my! Oh my, my, my. Todd!

Todd Palin: What?

Sarah Palin: Obama could have been born in Egypt!

Todd Palin: He was born in Africa but nowhere near Egypt.

Sarah Palin: Nonsense! Africa is only a small country.

Todd Palin: It’s bigger than America

Sarah Palin: Todd, you are so unpatriotic. Don’t let me hear you talk that way again

Todd Palin: But

Sarah Palin: But nothing Todd. You just remember Troopergate and keep you mouth shut. You hear?

Todd Palin: Yes Sarah.

Sarah Palin: That’s better.

Todd Palin: But

Sarah Palin: Can you be quiet Todd? I’m trying to think here. Africa, Obama, Egypt, Obama. Hey?! Obama wants Egypt to win because he comes from there! Stands to reason. He is just so unAmerican. How can he do what is good for America when he is not American. His children probably come from Egypt too. Wow Todd, imagine that!

Todd Palin: Imagine what?

Sarah Palin: Obama has only gone and manufactured another blood libel thingamajig in Egypt!

Todd Palin: You can’t say that! Look what happened last time.

Sarah Palin: Don’t be unpatriotic Todd. Anyway, I didn’t mean that kind a blood libel.

In the past few weeks, various websites and blogs have been reporting on Blake Griffin’s new girlfriend, a student at USC named Jasmine Shein.

Jasmine Shein not Blake Griffin's girlfriend

(wrongwrongwrongwrong)

Griffin and Jasmine Shein were first linked by a sports blog called playerseason.com on Dec. 22 of last year with this post:

This is Blake Griffin’s new girlfriend Jasmine Shein. The two met each other in LA, where Jasmine is a student at USC.

All reports tell us that these two actually met on facebook and have been seeing each other in LA for a few months.

The post by the obscure site elicited no reaction across the web. That changed though thanks to a subsequent entry on a notorious sports gossip website. (more…)

Germany’s Der Spiegel publishes an interview today with the Egyptian Ambassador to Germany about the massacre of Coptic Christians in his country.  Clearly, denial and double-speak are official government policy. Listen to what Ambassador Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy says:

SPIEGEL ONLINE: In Egypt, Copts have demonstrated against President Hosni Mubarak. They accuse his government of being jointly responsible for the attack. How do you explain this rage?

Ramzy: I can understand the sorrow and rage of Egyptians Copts, their community was hit by terror — but the government has done everything possible to fight terrorism. Terrorism is a worldwide phenomenon and does not discriminate between colors, creed or religious affiliation. I feel sorry that this time the Copts were their victims. As you recall, Egypt was a victim of a terrorist wave in the 1980s. It was aimed at the security and stability of the country. We overcame this wave as we will do with this particular incident.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Several German politicians have criticised the Egyptian government for not providing enough protection for Christians. Do you understand this position?

Ramzy: I am aware of the statements made and I regret that some of them were not based on concrete facts. It is easy to pass judgement when you are living outside Egypt, but some people should inform themselves better before talking about the circumstances in other countries. Copts and Muslims enjoy the full protection of the Egyptian state; they are equal under the constitution and enjoy equal rights.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: The US State Department has also criticised the lack of religious freedom in Egypt and blamed the government for not changing laws which discriminate against Copts. Is there any need for change?

Ramzy: There are no laws that discriminate against Christians in Egypt. Change in the sense of evolution of society to attain fulfilment in every sense is an objective for all governments, and we in Egypt are no exception in that.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Copts are hardly allowed to build churches, and they are rarely accepted into the civil service. Isn’t that discrimination?

Ramzy: There is absolutely no discrimination by Egyptian law. There are many Copts who are ambassadors in important places, as well as in other important positions. The Egyptian minister of finance is a Copt, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the parliament is a Copt. How can we say that there is discrimination when the three Egyptians in the (list of the) 100 richest men in the world are Copts? They couldn’t have achieved this through their business in Egypt if there was discrimination.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: How can Egypt reduce tension between Muslims and Christians?

Ramzy: I would put it in a different context: As I already said before, there are extremists everywhere, not only in Egypt but also in Germany, in the United States, in Israel and elsewhere. Extremists are on both sides: Muslims and Christians, as is the case in Germany as well. Their aim is to disrupt societies through violent means, and they shouldn’t be allowed to succeed in that. We in Egypt, as all other governments including the German government, are united in our policies to combat extremism in all its forms.

Big Peace

Palestinian President Abbas is refusing to have face to face talks with Israel unless the Jewish State freezes all construction outside the pre-1967 borders. What Abbas knows but won’t admit is that there is no such thing as pre-1967 borders. That “green line” running through the West Bank is the 1949 Armistice Line. The armistice line was created solely because that’s Israeli and Arab forces stopped fighting at the end of the War of Independence (with some added adjustments in certain sectors).

Therefore that 1949 line, that people call 1967 border is really only a military line. In fact, Article II of the 1949 Armistice Agreement with the Jordanians explicitly specified that the line that was designated did not compromise any future territorial claims of the two parties, since it had been “dictated by exclusively by military considerations.” Of course the Jordanian rationale for that clause is to allow them to claim territory inside the armistice line for their very own.

You also hear politicians and diplomats claim that Israel must withdraw to the pre-1967 borders as called for in UN Security Council Resolution 242.

Anti-Israel forces changed the meaning of 242 by adding one simple article to the resolution “the.” They claim that 242 calls for Israel to withdraw from “the” territories taken during the Six Day War. The resolution actually says that ‘Israel should withdraw from territories’ taken during the war (no article). Adding the article changes the meaning from withdrawing from some territories to all territories.

It was no accident “the” was left out. Diplomats are very exact in their language. During the negotiations to create resolution 242, Arab governments tried three times to have “the” inserted in the resolution and their request was rejected. But, by repeating what they wanted the resolution to say all these years, the Arabs succeed in convincing many people to accept their distorted interpretation of 242.

Statements made by the drafters of 242 prove there is no ambiguity about what they meant.

Lord Caradon, sponsor of the draft that was about to be adopted, stated, before the vote in the Security Council on Resolution 242:

“… the draft Resolution is a balanced whole. To add to it or to detract from it would destroy the balance and also destroy the wide measure of agreement we have achieved together. It must be considered as a whole as it stands. I suggest that we have reached the stage when most, if not all, of us want the draft Resolution, the whole draft Resolution and nothing but the draft Resolution.” (S/PV 1382, p. 31, of 22.11.67)

Mr. Michael Stewart, (Great Britain) Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, in reply to a question in Parliament, 17 November 1969:

“Question: “What is the British interpretation of the wording of the 1967 Resolution? Does the Right Honourable Gentleman understand it to mean that the Israelis should withdraw from all territories taken in the late war?”

Mr. Stewart: “No, Sir. That is not the phrase used in the Resolution. The Resolution speaks of secure and recognized boundaries. These words must be read concurrently with the statement on withdrawal.”

Mr. George Brown, British Foreign Secretary in 1967, on 19 January 1970:

“I have been asked over and over again to clarify, modify or improve the wording, but I do not intend to do that. The phrasing of the Resolution was very carefully worked out, and it was a difficult and complicated exercise to get it accepted by the UN Security Council. “I formulated the Security Council Resolution. Before we submitted it to the Council, we showed it to Arab leaders. The proposal said ‘Israel will withdraw from territories that were occupied’, and not from ‘the’ territories, which means that Israel will not withdraw from all the territories.” (The Jerusalem Post, January 3 1970)

Mr. Arthur Goldberg, US representative, in the Security Council in the course of the discussions which preceded the adoption of Resolution 242:

“To seek withdrawal without secure and recognized boundaries … would be just as fruitless as to seek secure and recognized boundaries without withdrawal. Historically, there have never been secure or recognized boundaries in the area. Neither the armistice lines of 1949 nor the cease-fire lines of 1967 have answered that description… such boundaries have yet to be agreed upon. An agreement on that point is an absolute essential to a just and lasting peace just as withdrawal is… S/PV. 1377, p. 37, of 15. 11.67

Mr. Joseph Sisco, Assistant Secretary of State, 12 July 1970 (NBC “Meet the Press”):

“That Resolution did not say ‘withdrawal to the pre-June 5 lines’. The Resolution said that the parties must negotiate to achieve agreement on the so-called final secure and recognized borders. In other words, the question of the final borders is a matter of negotiations between the parties.”

Eugene V. Rostow, Professor of Law and Public Affairs, Yale University, who, in 1967, was US Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs:

“… Paragraph 1 (i) of the Resolution calls for the withdrawal of Israeli armed forces ‘from territories occupied in the recent conflict’, and not ‘from the territories occupied in the recent conflict’. Repeated attempts to amend this sentence by inserting the word ‘the’ failed in the Security Council. It is, therefore, not legally possible to assert that the provision requires Israeli withdrawal from all the territories now occupied under the cease-fire resolutions to the Armistice Demarcation lines.” (American Journal of International Law, Volume 64, September 1970, p. 69)

Mr. Geraldo de Carvalho Silos, Brazilian UN representative, speaking in the Security Council after the adoption of Resolution 242:

“We keep constantly in mind that a just and lasting peace in the Middle East has necessarily to be based on secure, permanent boundaries freely agreed upon and negotiated by the neighboring States.” (S/PV. 1382, p. 66,22.11.67 ).

Not only was there no 1967 borders but there was never an intention for Israel to move back to the 1949 Armistice lines. The Palestinians are simply using the possibility of restarting direct talks to lure the United States into accepting preconditions that would be unacceptable to Israel, using the 1949 armistice line as the starting point for talks.

President Obama administration and SOS Clinton continue to ignore the documented truth and continue to push Israel to retreat to the non-existent pre-1967 borders;

Obama will end up trying to force them upon the Jewish State just as he did last year when he broke the US/Israel agreement regarding the natural growth of settlements leading to another rift in US/Israel relations. This is the result that the Palestinian leadership is looking for, they continue to delay talks but Israel gets the blame.
